From Putney bridge the line of green trees
stretch to a hazy horizon.
Flocks of doves circle, then rest
on the stony shores of the great river Thames.
Cruising boats are anchored,
while the crew in a long boat set oars to water.
The breeze is sharp.
The sky, not spectacular -
just soft gray blues,
some light shining through.
And the cars roar on and on.
Into endless lines of traffic.
